John DeMuria

FOUNDING MEMBER AND CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER

John DeMuria, known throughout the industry as “JD,” has more than four decades of experience in the global coffee trade, beginning his career in 1982. Over the course of his career he has developed deep relationships across producing regions, export networks, and North American coffee markets, helping build supply chains that have supported roasters and coffee companies for generations.

In 1990, JD co-founded Madison Coffee Company alongside Robert Ford, establishing the foundation for what would ultimately become Coastal Commodities. As Founding Member and Chief Executive Officer, JD provides strategic leadership across the firm’s trading, sourcing, and global supply chain operations.

A former Chairman of the National Coffee Association, JD remains widely respected throughout the industry for his market knowledge, disciplined approach to trading, and commitment to long-term partnerships across the global coffee supply chain.

John “JLo” Lorenz

CHIEF FINANCIAL OFFICER

John C. Lorenz, known as “JLo,” brings extensive financial and strategic expertise to Coastal Commodities. Prior to joining the firm, he spent 28 years in the banking industry, developing deep experience in corporate finance, lending, capital markets, and financial risk management.

As Chief Financial Officer, JLo oversees the company’s financial strategy, banking relationships, capital structure, and risk management framework. His background in banking and financial markets plays a critical role in supporting Coastal Commodities’ global trading operations and supply chain financing capabilities.

JLo became an owner of Coastal Commodities in 2018 and works closely with the company’s large group of lenders to ensure the company maintains the financial discipline and operational infrastructure required to support long-term growth.

Jonathan DeMuria

PRESIDENT AND HEAD OF TRADING

Born into the coffee industry (JD’s son), Jonathan DeMuria has spent more than two decades working across nearly every department of Coastal Commodities, developing a comprehensive understanding of the business from the ground up.

As President and Head of Trading, Jonathan oversees the company’s commercial strategy, trading activity, and customer partnerships. Over the past decade he has managed the firm’s trading book through a period of significant expansion, helping guide the company’s rapid growth while maintaining disciplined risk management and reliable supply execution for customers.

Jonathan works closely with roasters and supply partners to develop sourcing programs, manage market exposure, and structure supply solutions tailored to each customer’s operational and quality requirements. 

Known for his analytical approach, innovative problem solving, and deep commitment to the coffee trade, Jonathan became a member of the firm in 2018 and continues to lead the company’s trading operations and commercial development.
